Today, I created a Wiki, which is a collaborative workspace, for Rivers, Roads, & Rails. The difference between a wiki and a blog, as far as I can tell, is that wikis are a community project in the richest sense of the word, whereas a blog is more of a directed conversation. However, blogs work because they retain a record of conversations, reveal change (or continuity) over time in the posts; in short, they leave traces, available in an archive. By definition, a wiki does none of that. It is always looking forward and at the moment, capturing the current moment, discarding what is dated. With this in mind, I have created a wiki, parallel to this page as a way to manage both sides of the project. The project team will have full editing control over the wiki pages, creating our plans and jotting ideas as they progress. I will use this blog, along with Jann, to provide the latest information on where we are at and where we are going, to solicit answers to pressing questions (via the comment fields), and most of all to keep a record of where we have been.
The Rivers, Roads, & Rails Wiki is at the following URL: http://tristero.pbwiki.com/.
